El Anba Headra

The monastery, which is going to be inhabited in 2013, is under construction not far from the Nile River, on the west bank of the Nubian city of Aswan, in Southern Egypt. Built like a fortress, at first sight it seems abandoned and empty. No sound comes from the defensive walls to break the silence of the desert around. A series of buildings rise around the large haphazard courtyards, and the growing orchard at the far side to provide the ommunity with vegetables. Like a foreign body in the desert landscape it is accessible, at the moment, only by a road through the desert. It is built following
